WordApp Privacy Policy
Last updated: 4 October 2026
WordApp ("we", "us", or "our") is a daily devotional app designed to support personal scripture study, reflection, and prayer. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights in relation to it.
WordApp is published by Oghenetega Ighofose, an individual developer in the United Kingdom, who is the data controller for the personal data described here. You can contact the controller at support@wordapp.app.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the minimum information required to provide the service:
- Account information: When you create an account with an email address, we collect your email address and a hashed password via Supabase Auth.
- Sign in with Apple: If you choose Continue with Apple, Apple confirms who you are and gives the app a signed token. We pass that token to Supabase Auth, which creates or signs in to your account and records the email address Apple shares with us and an identifier for your Apple account. If you chose Hide My Email, the address is a private relay address that Apple creates and forwards to your real email; we never see your real address unless you give it to us. Apple may also offer your name; WordApp does not store it. If you use Sign in with Apple, we keep the token Apple gives us only so we can tell Apple to disconnect WordApp when you delete your account. If you signed in with Apple before 4 October 2026 we hold no such token; you can remove WordApp yourself under your iPhone's Settings → your name → Sign in with Apple.
- Devotional data: If you are signed in, your daily reflections, completed devotionals, reading streak, and chosen Bible translation are stored in our Supabase database and associated with your account.
- Community data: If you use Circles, we store, associated with your account: the name you choose to use in each Circle, your membership and role (member, co-leader or leader), your answers to a session's questions and study checks, notes and highlights you add to a verse in a session, prayer requests you share and the "I prayed" and "answered" marks on them, your Gatherings RSVPs, and the meeting times a leader sets. All of this is visible only to the members of that Circle; a prayer request marked "Only the leaders can see this" is visible only to you and the Circle's leaders.
- Reports and blocks: If you report another member, we store your report, who it is about, and which answer or note it concerns. Our safeguarding reviewers read the report and the reported text so they can act on it. If you block someone, we store that so their words stay hidden from you.
- Feedback: If you use "Send feedback to the WordApp team" in Companion, we store your message, the kind of feedback you chose, and what we need to reproduce a problem: the screen you sent it from (including the passage, profile or page it was showing), the app version and the update you were running, your device type and operating system version, and a reference number for the app's most recent crash report, if there was one. It is linked to your account if you are signed in. Crash reports themselves are never linked to your account. Feedback is read by the people who build the app, and used only to fix and improve it.
- Help searches: When you search the in-app help guide, we record the search text and whether it found an answer, so we can improve the guide. These records are not linked to your account activity or your reflections, and are never used for anything except improving help content.
- App usage counts: When you share a Circle invite, open the Companion, or ask the Companion something, we record that it happened (which Circle, where in the app you opened the Companion from, or which kind of answer it found, such as a verse reference or a feature, and when), linked to your account. We use these records only to count how Circles and the Companion are used, so we can improve them. We never record what you write, type or read, and these records aren't visible to anyone in the app.
- Feature use counts: When you open today's devotional, complete a day, tap Listen, open a Circle session, add a note on a verse, or search the help guide, the app records that it happened and the hour it happened, and nothing else. These records carry no account, name, device or other identifier, so they can't be linked to you, even by us, and we don't store your IP address with them. We use them only to count which parts of WordApp are used, so we can improve them.
- Device information: Standard platform data (iOS version, device type) used solely for crash reporting and compatibility.
- TestFlight beta feedback: If you test a beta version of WordApp through Apple's TestFlight and send feedback or a crash report, Apple passes it to us. It can include your comments, any screenshot you attach, details about your device (such as its model, iOS version, battery level and network type) and the name and email address Apple holds for you as a tester. We use it only to fix and improve the app. Apple's own handling of it is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Kept only on your phone. Some things you create in WordApp are never sent to us: your answers to the questions when you first set up the app, Bible highlights, saved verses, personal notes on a verse, your reminder times, your display settings, and your plans and journal in My own plan. When you sign out, they are cleared, except your plans and journal in My own plan, which stay on this phone for when you sign back in. All of them are removed when you delete your account in the app, or when you delete WordApp. Like other app data, they may be included in your phone's own backup (to iCloud or a computer) if you have backups turned on; that backup is between you and Apple.
We do not ask for your real name: the name you use in a Circle is your choice, and we don't keep the name Apple may offer at sign-in. We do not collect your phone number, location, contacts, camera access, or any biometric data.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the app — storing your reflections and streak so they persist across devices.
- To restore your progress if you reinstall the app or change devices.
- To power Circles — sharing prayer requests, answers, notes and Gatherings plans with the members of your group.
- To review reports and keep Circles safe.
- To read your feedback and fix what you tell us about.
- To diagnose crashes and performance issues so we can fix them quickly.
- To count which parts of the app are used, without knowing who used them, so we can improve them.
We do not use your information for advertising, sell it to third parties, or share it with anyone outside the service providers listed below.
3. Religious Belief and What You Share in Circles
Some of what you write in WordApp — your reflections, and the prayer requests, answers and notes you share in a Circle — can reveal your religious beliefs. UK data protection law treats information about religious belief as "special category" data (UK GDPR Article 9) and gives it extra protection.
Our lawful basis. We process this information on the basis of your explicit consent (UK GDPR Article 9(2)(a)). You give it for Circles by tapping I agree on the notice WordApp shows the first time you start, join or post in a Circle ("What you share can show your faith"), which says that what you post can show your religious beliefs and will be shown to that Circle's members. You give it for your reflections when you create an account, by ticking the box that says WordApp will save your reflections, which can show your faith, to your account, or by continuing with Apple under the same statement. We keep a record of when you agreed and to which wording. Nothing you write is required to use WordApp: you can read without an account, and without joining a Circle.
Withdrawing your consent. You can withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawing doesn't affect anything we did before you withdrew it. You can:
- change an answer you posted in a Circle session, by tapping it and editing it;
- delete a prayer request, answer or note you posted, by tapping delete on it; it is gone for the whole Circle;
- leave a Circle and take your posts with you, with Leave and remove my posts on the Circle's page; this deletes your answers, study-check answers, prayer requests, notes and highlights in that Circle;
- ask us to delete anything else you posted, by emailing support@wordapp.app with the Circle's name and roughly what and when you posted; we will delete it within one month;
- delete your account (Settings → Data & Account → Delete account & data), which deletes your reflections and everything you posted in every Circle.
Leaving a Circle with the plain Leave this Circle stops you seeing it and posting in it, but does not delete what you already posted there: that stays visible to the Circle's members. To take it with you, use Leave and remove my posts instead, or one of the other options above. If something you deleted had been reported, the report is kept for our safeguarding reviewers, without your words.
4. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services, each operating under their own privacy policies:
- Supabase — Authentication and database storage. Data is stored in EU/US data centres with row-level security (you can only access your own data). Supabase Privacy Policy
- Resend — sends WordApp's account emails (sign-up confirmation and password reset) for Supabase Auth. It processes your email address only to deliver those emails. Resend Privacy Policy
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, TestFlight beta testing, and App Store distribution. Apple Privacy Policy
- Sentry — Crash reporting and performance monitoring. Collects anonymised crash logs and device diagnostics; not linked to your account identity. Sentry Privacy Policy
- Bible text and word study — When you open a passage or a word study, the app requests that text from API.Bible, bolls.life or STEP Bible. These requests name the passage, not you or your account, but like any request over the internet they reveal your device's IP address to that service.
- RevenueCat — Not in use at present. If we offer paid features in future, RevenueCat will handle in-app purchase receipts; no financial data is stored by us. RevenueCat Privacy Policy
5. Data Retention
Your data is retained for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account from inside the app (Settings → Data & Account → Delete account & data), your account and all associated data — reflections, streak, community data, and credentials — are permanently deleted from our systems immediately, and everything WordApp stored on your phone is cleared. Feedback messages you sent us are kept, with the link to your account removed. To request deletion by email instead, contact us at the address below.
6. Children's Privacy
WordApp is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights including:
- Access to the personal data we hold about you
- Correction of inaccurate data
- Deletion of your account and associated data
- Data portability (export of your reflections)
- Withdrawing your consent (see section 3)
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below.
Complaints. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your personal data, email support@wordapp.app with the subject "Data complaint". We'll acknowledge it within 30 days and tell you what we're doing about it. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after any change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
